In order to promote less-polluting means of transport, the article L.1431-3 of the transport code stipulates in particular that “any person who markets or organizes a service of transport of persons, goods or removal must provide the beneficiary of the service with information relating to the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted by the mode(s) of transport used to carry out this service”.
Articles D. 1431-1 to D. 1431-23 of the Transportation Code set out the calculation principles common to all modes of transportation (rail or guided, road, river, sea, air).
The calculation methodology is based on the European standard EN 16258 relating to the calculation and declaration of energy and greenhouse gas emissions from transport services.
